"Atypical" Cytology Examples

  All of these EIN lesions were judged by the majority (3 or 4) of four pathologists to have significant cytologic atypia.  Note how variable the cytology actually is between examples.  Rather than trying to develop a fixed image of the cytology of EIN lesions it is much more practical to employ a relative standard whereby EIN lesions are characterized by Cytologic Demarcation from adjacent non-EIN endometrium in the same patient.  Some of the EIN examples below marked by a thick border frame have overrun isolated benign glands which show this contrast nicely.
